Joey Contreras

Joey Contreras joins the Summer at Sem Theatre Program 2022 with Brian Carey and Special Guest Broadway Vocalist. Joey will work with our students teaching a master class and offer a concert performance with Q&A on the stage of our Kirby Center for Creative Arts. A multi-talented composer, lyricist and performer of pop and musical theatre, Joey is internationally known for his studio albums Love Me, Love Me Not, Young Kind of Love, Joyride, and In Pieces: A New Musical. Garnering millions of streams, his various musical projects include performances by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award nominees and winners.

His musical, In Pieces, was originally presented at Lincoln Center and has since been made available for worldwide licensing. The popular In Pieces: A New Musical (Highlights) album was released by Broadway Records. In 2021, London production company Future Spotlight Productions developed the musical into a feature film starring established West End performers as well as emerging talent.

Joey is a Fred Ebb Award finalist, Jonathan Larson Grant finalist and an alumnus of the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing program (ASCAP Max Dreyfus Scholarship) and the Johnny Mercer Project. As a strong supporter of arts education, Joey has served as Artist-in-Residence with Broadway Dreams Foundation, and regularly teaches songwriting through private coaching and group master classes at universities and theatre programs worldwide.
