New for Summer 2020 — Our Online English Language Institute
Experience the same excellent academics and language training in the comfort and safety of your own home.
The English Language Institute at Summer at Sem is a worldwide leader in teaching language and culture to international students ages 12-18. Our four-week residential summer camp is a perfect fit for students looking to study in the United States and improve their language skills in a fun and immersive environment. Students are also able to extend their stay with our one-week Experiential Travel Session at the end of the program.
New in 2020, we also offer a virtual/online ELI for students who wish to improve their academic writing, independent reading skills, and TOFEL prep with native English speakers from the comforts of their own homes.
The English Language Institute is part of Wyoming Seminary, an internationally-recognized college preparatory school located in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Having just celebrated its 175th Anniversary, Wyoming Seminary has a long history of summer programs dating back to at least the 1920s, and a dedicated history of English language programs.
The English Language Institute offers morning language instruction in grammar, vocabulary, and fundamentals of English. Afternoon classes are taken with a focus in either American Culture or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Every night during the week, students have supervised Study Hall to ensure enough time is set aside from our fun-filled schedules to complete all assignments.
Afternoon activities keep campers busy and having fun whether they are creating masterpieces in our art studios, swimming in our indoor pool, or participating in the Summer at Sem Kickball League on Back Campus.
Weekend Trips allow our students to travel to culturally significant cities such as Philadelphia and New York City. These trips give students an opportunity to learn more about the United States, our history, and practice their language skills outside of the classroom.
We also offer an Experiential Travel Session, a seven-day travel adventure to see even more of the United States on a fun-filled trip! Join us as we tour college and universities, explore museums and amusement parks, and try all different kinds of local/American cuisines! Cities visited on past travel sessions include Boston, Massachusetts; Burlington, Vermont; New York City, New York; Washington, D.C.,; Baltimore, Maryland; and Richmond, Virginia.
